Connecting to mobile broadband is now just plug & play in Ubuntu 13.10

Ubuntu 13.10 had some serious bugs w.r.t mobile broadband connectivity when it was first released. Recent bug fixes and updates for Ubuntu 13.10 have chaged it all. My current tests on a Tata Indicom mobile broadband (Huawei EC1260) indicate that connecting to the internet with a usb mobile broadband dongle is as easy as plug and play and is even easier than the Windows Setup. Below are the steps for connecting to Tata Photon +

  1. Connect the USB mobile broadband dongle and wait for the LED to start blinking
  2. Select to enable Mobile Broadband from the network manager icon on the top panel
  3. Select to create new connection

  4. Select your country, then the mobile broadband service provider
  5. Save and connect to the provider from the dropdown menu
