A recent post at the phoronix.com tells us that the Ubuntu Technical Board is deciding the fate of Unity today ,
whether it should be the default shell for Ubuntu 11.04. The natural choice for an alternative is of course the classic gnome shell. I personally feel that Unity needs 6 more months of development before it becomes ready for production systems.
