The latest release of OpenOffice from Oracle, OpenOffice.org 3.2.1, now supports saving documents in Microsoft Office 2007 file formats. Previous releases of OpenOffice could read but not write into the file format. It had to be saved in Office 2003 format. Although the support has come nearly three years after the format was officially released by Microsoft, it is still a welcome change. In future releases of MS Office, the new formats will continue to be used.
Also noticeable is the better compatibility of 2007 file formats. The formatting of word documents is nearly intact except for a few movements of the margin here and there. Overall, a very good stable, update.
