I have been reading quite a number of posts saying that Gnome shell does not work with ATI graphics cards properly. However, it does not seem to be the case with me! I have a 512 MB ATI Radeon HD
3600 series card. I have installed Gnome Shell on top of my custom distribution, Easylinux OS, based on Ubuntu 11.04. It works just fine for me. Till now I have not got any reboots or screen blackouts.
However, I have not tested Gnome Shell with the ATI fglrx graphics cards, provided by AMD yet. I will update this post once that test is done. In the meanwhile you can have a look at the screenshots which shows which driver I run on my system.
UPDATE: Gnome Shell is not working with proprietary drivers from AMD. I downloaded and installed the latest driver from AMD website . The shell does not appear after logging in.
It works but its ugly as all hell
It works pretty nicely on my ATI 3650 🙂
hey i have 3650 too, which drivers are you using ? I couldnt get gnome3 run smoothly 🙁 can you please help ?
Hey Lasha, just to remind you that Gnome Shell still does not work well with ATI proprietary graphics cards. The graphics card which comes with UBuntu by default works well if you are looking for basic day to day jobs like email and internet browsing.
Hi,
it does not work with the proprietaryATI drivers on Oneric. It does with the Ubuntu drivers but I could not manage to change the resolution. At the present I face 1024 something.
Any idea how to solve this.
Thank you
