Yes that’s right! Ubuntu and all debian based distributions now support google video and audio chat from gmail. In course of time, Google will add support for Red Hat and SUSE users.
Previously, this feature was exclusive for Windows and Mac users. However, popular chat clients, Empathy and Pidgin, served as drop-in replacements.
The plugin is very easy to install. Just head over to the google voice and video page (here) and download the .deb file.
Double click on the file, enter your password, and you’re done! Login to your gmail account to call straight from gmail !
