This is what Justin Uberti (Tech Lead, Google) wrote on his blog on 30th of June. Looks like google is finally listening to linux enthusiasts.
Sounds like they’re getting everything ready for when they release their Chrome operating system!

Google has always listen to the Linux community, they said already that they were slacking a little on Linux in the last few years but that they were going to step up. They said that about 6 months ago. would link if I would remember the link.
Except not returning all of their Linux enhancements they’ve put into backend software like the community would like.

Nearly a year later, and Google Video Chat is still unsupported on Linux. So much for that wait ending so…
