It seems Mozilla
is on a mission to sync the release versons and cycles for Firefox and Thunderbird.Until recently we were hearing about Thunderbird 3.3 alpha and now all of a sudden Thunderbird 5 beta is out in the wild.
It must be noted that the Firefox 5 beta was released a only a fortnight ago! The beta release announcement was made today and the release notes can be found here. Some of the features of the new beta are:
- New Addons Manager and extension management API (user interface will be changed before final release)
- Tabs can now be reordered and dragged to different windows
- Revised account creation wizard, offering improved set-up
- Attachment sizes now displayed along with attachments
The latest beta can be installed in the last three ubuntu releases by installing this ppa: ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-next
The easiest way to install the ppa & the software is to open a terminal and add the following commands
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-next
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
This will install the ppa and upgarde your thunderbird to the latest beta version.
